Likhita Mantra Jaap (“the app”) is a devotional likhita japa writing companion and digital mala counter for iOS, operated as an independent project by Praneel Bhatia. This page contains both the Privacy Policy and the Terms of Use for the app.
This policy explains what data the app handles, when (and why) any of it leaves your device, and the controls available to you.
Likhita Mantra Jaap has no account system, no sign-up, and no backend server. Everything you do in the app — every sankalpa (intention) you set, every stroke you write, every mala count and sitting you log — is stored locally on your iPhone using Apple’s SwiftData framework. The developer never receives or sees this data.
The following is stored on-device only:
None of this is your name, email, phone number, or any other identifying information — the app never asks for any of it.
Device backups: because Likhita Mantra Jaap uses no special backup exclusion, this on-device data is included in your iPhone’s standard iCloud or computer backup, the same as any other app’s data — it is not separately transmitted anywhere by Likhita Mantra Jaap itself.
Likhita Mantra Jaap shows interstitial ads between writing sessions, and an optional rewarded video ad you can choose to watch for a temporary (3-hour) ad-free window. Both are served through Google’s AdMob (Google Mobile Ads SDK).
To serve and measure these ads, Google may collect technical and usage information such as device identifiers, IP address (and the coarse location derivable from it), ad interaction data, and app/device information. This is governed by Google’s own privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy, and Google’s AdMob policies: https://support.google.com/admob/answer/6128543.
Likhita Mantra Jaap does not currently request App Tracking Transparency (ATT) authorization, so ads are served on a non-personalized/contextual basis rather than using your Apple advertising identifier (IDFA) for cross-app tracking. If a future version adds personalized ads, iOS will show you the standard system tracking-permission prompt before anything changes, and this policy will be updated to match.
EEA, UK, and Switzerland: the app does not currently show a consent dialog. In regions where consent is required for ad personalization, Google serves ads in its limited / non-personalized modes, which do not use advertising identifiers to personalize ads. If a future version adds a consent dialog (Google’s User Messaging Platform), you will be able to review and change your ad privacy choices in the app at any time, and this policy will be updated to match. You can read about how Google uses information from apps that use its services at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Third-party protection: the only third parties that receive any data through the app are Google (ad serving) and Apple (payments, notifications, and the App Store, as part of iOS itself). Both are contractually and legally required to protect that data under their own privacy policies and applicable law, providing protection at least equal to what is described in this policy.
The Settings screen offers an entirely optional “seva” (devotional offering/tip) purchase — a small, consumable in-app purchase handled by Apple’s App Store via StoreKit. Likhita Mantra Jaap never sees or stores your payment details; Apple processes the transaction and Likhita Mantra Jaap only learns that a purchase succeeded, so it can show a thank-you message. A seva purchase does not unlock or change any app functionality — it is purely a voluntary offering.
The optional morning reminder and “gentle nudge” are local, on-device notifications scheduled through Apple’s UserNotifications framework. They are not push notifications — no server or third party is involved in triggering them, and no notification content ever leaves your device.
All app data lives inside the app’s iOS sandbox and is protected by iOS device encryption (Apple Data Protection) when your device is locked with a passcode. The app makes no network connections of its own other than those made by the Google Mobile Ads SDK (over HTTPS) and Apple’s StoreKit. Because ad serving is performed by Google, data Google collects may be processed on servers outside your country, subject to Google’s own safeguards for international transfers.
If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with comparable data-protection rights, and to the extent Likhita Mantra Jaap processes any personal data about you (chiefly through Google’s ad serving, described above), you have the right to:
Because almost everything Likhita Mantra Jaap handles lives only on your device, most of these are self-service (see “Your controls” above). For anything relating to data Google may hold from ad serving, contact the developer at the email below, or Google directly via https://policies.google.com/privacy.
The app is operated from India, and to the extent it processes any digital personal data, it does so in accordance with India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025. As a Data Principal you have the right to:
In practice, because the app has no account system and the developer never receives your practice data, most of these rights are self-service through the controls above. The developer’s contact for all data-protection questions and grievances is the email address in the Contact section below.
Likhita Mantra Jaap does not sell personal information, and does not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended) and similar US state privacy laws — ads are served without ATT authorization and without using your advertising identifier for cross-app profiles. If you have questions about data Google processes for ad serving, see Google’s privacy policy or contact the developer below.
Likhita Mantra Jaap contains devotional writing-practice content suitable for a general audience and carries no restricted-content age rating, but it is not directed at children. The app does not knowingly collect personal data from children and — since it has no account system — has no way to knowingly identify a user’s age at all; it never seeks (and has no mechanism to seek) the verifiable parental consent that laws such as India’s DPDP Act or the US COPPA require before collecting a child’s data, because it collects none. If you believe a child has used the app in a way that concerns you (for example, interacted with ads), contact the developer below and the concern will be addressed, including by raising it with Google where it relates to ad serving.
If this policy changes materially, the “Last updated” date above will change to reflect it.
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your use of Likhita Mantra Jaap (the “App”), operated by Praneel Bhatia (“we”, “us”, “the developer”). By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
Likhita Mantra Jaap is a devotional companion app for likhita japa (writing a deity’s name by hand as a form of repetition) and a digital mala/bead counter, with practice-tracking statistics. The App is a personal practice tool. It is not a religious authority, a substitute for guidance from a qualified teacher or priest, and it makes no claim about the spiritual, religious, or health effects of any practice it helps you track.
The App is intended for a general audience. If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you should use the App only with the involvement of a parent or guardian.
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the App on Apple devices you own or control, for your own personal, non-commercial use — solely as permitted by Apple’s Media Services Terms and Usage Rules and applicable law. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.
Any names, guide scripts, or strokes you hand-write in the App stay on your device (see the Privacy Policy above) and remain yours. We claim no ownership over anything you write or draw in the App. Because this content is never transmitted to us, we have no ability to access, back up, or recover it on your behalf — if it’s lost (e.g. the app is deleted, or the device is lost/reset without a backup), we cannot restore it.
The App offers optional, consumable “seva” (dāna/offering) purchases processed by Apple through StoreKit. These purchases:
The App displays interstitial and optional rewarded ads served by Google AdMob. We do not control the content of individual ads or the sites/apps they may link to, and we are not responsible for third-party advertising content, offers, or products. Your interactions with an ad are between you and the advertiser or Google.
The Likhita Mantra Jaap name, app design, source code, and original artwork are the property of the developer and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. Deity names, traditional mantras, and devotional concepts referenced in the App are part of shared cultural and religious heritage and are not claimed as the developer’s property.
The App is provided “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including without limitation any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any streak, statistic, or stored record will never be lost.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the developer shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, arising out of or related to your use of, or inability to use, the App.
You may stop using the App at any time by deleting it from your device. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the App (or any part of it) at any time, with or without notice.
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
You agree not to: copy, modify, distribute, sell, rent, or sublicense the App or any part of it; reverse-engineer or attempt to extract the source code of the App except to the extent applicable law expressly permits; use the App in any way that violates applicable law; or interfere with or attempt to defraud the App’s advertising (for example, by generating fraudulent ad impressions or clicks).
These Terms are concluded between you and the developer only — not with Apple Inc. (“Apple”), and Apple is not responsible for the App or its content. You acknowledge and agree that:
To the extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to indemnify and hold the developer harmless from claims, damages, and reasonable expenses (including legal fees) arising out of your breach of these Terms or your misuse of the App. This does not limit any rights you have under mandatory consumer-protection law.
If any provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect. The developer’s failure to enforce any right or provision is not a waiver of it. You may not assign these Terms; the developer may assign them in connection with a transfer of the App. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy above, constitute the entire agreement between you and the developer regarding the App. Nothing in these Terms limits any non-waivable rights you have as a consumer under the laws of your place of residence.
These Terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the App shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of India. This choice of law and forum does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory provisions of the law of your country of residence.
